About World Currencies bingo

World Currencies Bingo lists 48 national currencies, grouped in families that share a name, such as seven dollars, five pesos and four rupees, alongside one-of-a-kind names like the “Hungarian forint”, “Ghanaian cedi”, “Ukrainian hryvnia” and “Peruvian sol”. It suits middle- and high-school economics and geography, travel clubs and adults who like a trickier quiz.

On a 5x5 card with a free center, World Currencies bingo shows 24 of the 48 entries, so each one lands on about 50% of the cards: in a set of 30, Euro or US dollar appears on roughly 15 cards. Card 1 leaves out 24 of them, including US dollar, Canadian dollar and New Zealand dollar, so no single card can mark everything.

A host reads out one entry at a time from the printed caller sheet (all 48 of them, shuffled); players daub the square if their card has it and call bingo on a full line.

How to host World Currencies bingo

  1. Print the World Currencies cards

Give each player one card; a free set prints up to 30, no two alike. Card 1 above starts with Polish zloty, Euro, Argentine peso, Kenyan shilling and Ghanaian cedi.

  2. Print the caller sheet

All 48 entries appear on it in shuffled order, opening with British pound, Philippine peso, Colombian peso, South African rand and New Zealand dollar; tick each one as you read it out.

  3. Call only the country and let players find its currency, so hearing Poland leads to the “Polish zloty” and Thailand to the “Thai baht”.

  4. Point out the Nordic spellings when they are called: “Swedish krona” and “Icelandic krona” versus the “Norwegian krone” and “Danish krone”.

  5. Bring a few real coins or banknotes if you have them from travel, and pass one round when its currency, such as the “Euro”, is called.

  6. Call until someone shouts bingo

With 30 cards, expect the first line near call 13 (Sri Lankan rupee in this set's order) and a blackout near call 43; check the winner's squares against your ticked list.

World Currencies bingo variations

Card 1 needs all 24 squares, Polish zloty to Chinese yuan; on average one card fills after 47.0 of the 48 calls (98% of the deck).

  • Quick 4x4 round

A 4x4 card needs 16 of the 48 entries and no free space; one card is full after about 46.1 calls instead of 47.0.

First 15 calls of this World Currencies set

Seed "world-currencies" gives this order, the same one the caller sheet prints. With these calls, card 24 of the first 30 completes the diagonal from the top left (Egyptian pound, Thai baht, Philippine peso and British pound) on call 17, and card 11 is the first full card on call 43.

Frequently asked questions

How many words are on the World Currencies bingo list?

48, from Argentine peso to Vietnamese dong. A 5x5 card with a free center uses 24 of them, so each card leaves out 24. The shortest entry is Euro (4 characters) and the longest is South African rand (18).

Are all World Currencies bingo cards the same?

No. Card 1 and card 2 of this set share 11 of their 24 squares, and every card is checked so none of the 30 in a free set repeats. About 2.00 × 10³⁷ different arrangements are possible from the 48 entries (32,247,603,683,100 different selections of 24).

How many World Currencies bingo cards per person?

One card each is standard. In 150 simulated games of this list, 30 players on one card each got a first line after a median 13 calls; with two cards each (60 in play) it came after 12, and 10 single cards took 18. Two cards suit adults who want a faster game; young children do best with one. A free set of 30 covers 15 players on two cards each.

How long does World Currencies bingo take?

A World Currencies game with 30 players usually reaches its first line after 13 calls (9-18 in 80% of simulated games), about 2 minutes at one call every 10 seconds. A blackout takes about 43; with 10 players the first line needs about 18.

Can I print World Currencies bingo cards for free?

Yes, up to 30 unique cards per set at no cost and without an account. Pick how many you need, then use Print cards or Download PDF: each card gets its own page with the title “World Currencies Bingo” on top, and the caller sheet lists all 48 entries in this set's shuffled order.

How do I make my own World Currencies bingo cards?

Open Edit words in the generator above: it already holds the 48 entries, one per line. Replace Polish zloty with something from your own group, add inside jokes or names, and the sample card redraws at once. 5x5 cards need 24 entries or more.
