About Las Posadas bingo

A card for Las Posadas, the nine-night celebration held from December 16 to 24 in Mexico, Guatemala and many Hispanic communities, including New Mexico. Each night re-enacts Mary and Joseph's search for shelter: Peregrinos walk in Procession, sing Pedir posada in Call and response with the Innkeepers, and finally reach an Open door with Ponche, Tamales and a Seven-point star Piñata.

On a 5x5 card with a free center, Las Posadas bingo shows 24 of the 46 entries, so each one lands on about 52% of the cards: in a set of 30, Nine nights or December 16 to 24 appears on roughly 16 cards. Card 1 leaves out 22 of them, including Mary and Joseph, Donkey and Candles, so no single card can mark everything.

Play it like classic bingo: one person reads the 46 entries in the shuffled order of the caller sheet, everyone marks matching squares, and a full row, column or diagonal wins.

When to play Las Posadas bingo

The first night of Las Posadas 2026 falls on Wednesday, December 16. At home or at a party, play on Wednesday, December 16 itself. For a classroom round, it is a weekday, so you can play on the day itself.

In 2027 it falls on Thursday, December 16. Printing 30 cards at one card per page takes 30 sheets plus the caller sheet, so print a few days ahead and keep the share link (seed "las-posadas") to reprint the same set.

How to host Las Posadas bingo

  1. Print the Las Posadas cards

Give each player one card; a free set prints up to 30, no two alike. Card 1 above starts with Community feast, Knock at the door, Stick, Neighborhood walk and Oranges.

  2. Print the caller sheet

All 46 entries appear on it in shuffled order, opening with Mary and Joseph, Community feast, Aguinaldo, Ponche and Final night; tick each one as you read it out.

  3. Use the Spanish words as a mini-lesson: say Villancicos, Aguinaldo or Pastorela and give the English meaning before players mark the square.

  4. Play one round per night across the Nine nights, keeping the same cards; the Final night lines up with Noche Buena on December 24.

  5. Fill a real Piñata with the fruits from the card, such as Tejocotes, Sugarcane, Peanuts and Oranges, and break it when someone wins.

  6. Call until someone shouts bingo

With 30 cards, expect the first line near call 14 (Candles in this set's order) and a blackout near call 42; check the winner's squares against your ticked list.

Las Posadas bingo variations

  • Las Posadas variation

Knock-knock round: the caller knocks on a door and players respond with a square word as the password. The first player whose card fills a line opens the door and is welcomed in as the host.

  • Blackout round

Card 1 needs all 24 squares, Community feast to Peanuts; on average one card fills after 45.1 of the 46 calls (98% of the deck).

  • Quick 4x4 round

A 4x4 card needs 16 of the 46 entries and no free space; one card is full after about 44.2 calls instead of 45.1.

First 15 calls of this Las Posadas set

Seed "las-posadas" gives this order, the same one the caller sheet prints. With these calls, card 22 of the first 30 completes the N column (Call and response, Ponche, Angel and Innkeepers) on call 15, and card 4 is the first full card on call 43.

Frequently asked questions

How many words are on the Las Posadas bingo list?

46, from Aguinaldo to Villancicos. A 5x5 card with a free center uses 24 of them, so each card leaves out 22. The shortest entry is Angel (5 characters) and the longest is Nochebuena flower (17).

Are all Las Posadas bingo cards the same?

No. Card 1 and card 2 of this set share 13 of their 24 squares, and every card is checked so none of the 30 in a free set repeats. About 4.90 × 10³⁶ different arrangements are possible from the 46 entries (7,890,371,113,950 different selections of 24).

How many Las Posadas bingo cards per person?

Usually one. Extra cards speed the game up only a little: on this list a first line took a median 14 calls with 30 cards in play, 12 with 60 (30 players on two cards each) and 17 with just 10. Two cards suit adults who want a faster game; young children do best with one. A free set of 30 covers 15 players on two cards each.

How long does Las Posadas bingo take?

A Las Posadas game with 30 players usually reaches its first line after 14 calls (10-17 in 80% of simulated games), about 2 minutes at one call every 10 seconds. A blackout takes about 42; with 10 players the first line needs about 17.

Can I print Las Posadas bingo cards for free?

Yes, up to 30 unique cards per set at no cost and without an account. Pick how many you need, then use Print cards or Download PDF: each card gets its own page with the title “Las Posadas Bingo” on top, and the caller sheet lists all 46 entries in this set's shuffled order.

How do I make my own Las Posadas bingo cards?

Open Edit words in the generator above: it already holds the 46 entries, one per line. Replace Piñata with something from your own group, add inside jokes or names, and the sample card redraws at once. 5x5 cards need 24 entries or more.
