About Christmas Picture bingo

Picture bingo for children who cannot read yet: all 48 squares carry a picture and a word, from Santa, Mrs. Claus and the Reindeer to winter animals like the Penguin, Polar bear and Owl. It is ideal for preschool, early years classrooms, English learners and mixed-age family tables where the youngest player should be able to win on their own.

48 entries make up this Christmas Picture set. With 24 per card, any single one, Top hat for example, appears on about 50% of the cards, so in a room of 30 players around 15 of them have it.

Play it like classic bingo: one person reads the 48 entries in the shuffled order of the caller sheet, everyone marks matching squares, and a full row, column or diagonal wins.

When to play Christmas Picture bingo

Christmas 2026 falls on Friday, December 25. For a classroom round, schools close from December 24, so the last Friday before the break, December 18, is the usual slot. At home or at a party, play on Friday, December 25 itself.

In 2027 it falls on Saturday, December 25. Printing 30 cards at one card per page takes 30 sheets plus the caller sheet, so print a few days ahead and keep the share link (seed "christmas-picture-bingo") to reprint the same set.

How long Christmas Picture bingo lasts

Simulated over 150 shuffled games on cards 1-60 of this set: the median first line arrives on call 14 with 30 players and on call 17 with 10, while a blackout takes 43 calls, roughly 7 minutes at 10 seconds a call.

How to host Christmas Picture bingo

  1. Print the Christmas Picture cards

Give each player one card; a free set prints up to 30, no two alike. Card 1 above starts with Angel, Cookie, Elf, Candy and Lollipop.

  2. Print the caller sheet

All 48 entries appear on it in shuffled order, opening with Teddy bear, Chocolate, Candle, Fire and Coat; tick each one as you read it out.

  3. Show the picture when you call instead of reading the word; toddlers can then match Snowman to Snowman without help from an adult.

  4. Ask a question about each picture before calling it, such as 'Which one keeps your neck warm?' for Scarf, to practice vocabulary.

  5. Use a 3x3 or 4x4 grid for under-fives so a game ends before attention runs out; nine pictures like Bell, Moon and Cookie are plenty.

  6. Call until someone shouts bingo

With 30 cards, expect the first line near call 14 (Shining star in this set's order) and a blackout near call 43; check the winner's squares against your ticked list.

Christmas Picture bingo variations

  • Christmas Picture variation

Sound bingo: instead of showing the picture, make a sound or mime. Ring for Bell, toot for Trumpet, shiver for Coat, hoot for Owl. Children mark the matching picture.

  • Blackout round

Card 1 needs all 24 squares, Angel to Cupcake; on average one card fills after 47.0 of the 48 calls (98% of the deck).

  • Picture bingo for pre-readers

Use 3x3 cards with the 48 entries that have a symbol, such as Santa, Mrs. Claus and Elf.

First 15 calls of this Christmas Picture set

Seed "christmas-picture-bingo" gives this order, the same one the caller sheet prints. With these calls, card 4 of the first 30 completes the diagonal from the top left (Present, Scarf, Snowman and Snowflake) on call 15, and card 4 is the first full card on call 41.

Are all Christmas Picture bingo cards the same?

No. Card 1 and card 2 of this set share 12 of their 24 squares, and every card is checked so none of the 30 in a free set repeats. About 2.00 Γ— 10³⁷ different arrangements are possible from the 48 entries (32,247,603,683,100 different selections of 24).

How many Christmas Picture bingo cards per person?

One card each is standard. Yes. The generator above makes up to 30 cards (5x5 cards with a free center) from the 48 entries; Print cards sends them to your printer and Download PDF saves one card per page, so 30 cards take 30 pages plus the caller sheet. It all runs in your browser with no sign-up.

How do I make my own Christmas Picture bingo cards?

Open Edit words in the generator above: it already holds the 48 entries, one per line. Replace Christmas tree with something from your own group, add inside jokes or names, and the sample card redraws at once. 5x5 cards need 24 entries or more.

Is there a picture version of Christmas Picture bingo?

48 of the 48 entries have a picture symbol (πŸŽ… Santa, 🀢 Mrs. Claus, 🧝 Elf, 🦌 Reindeer). Print 3x3 cards with symbol entries such as Christmas tree and Present for children who cannot read yet; symbols show on screen and in browser printing.
