About First Day at Work bingo

First Day at Work Bingo follows a new starter from “Badge photo” and “Laptop handed over” through the “Office tour”, “Too many acronyms” and “Lunch with the manager” to a proud “First task done”. Managers can slip a card into the welcome pack, and new hires can mark it privately as a light way to settle first-day nerves.

This First Day at Work list is 42 entries long and a 5x5 card with a free center takes 24, which leaves 18 off each card. That is why one entry (Desk assigned, say) appears on about 17 of 30 cards: card 1, for instance, has no Welcome email or Meet the team.

The caller reads the 42 entries from a shuffled caller sheet and players mark them; the first complete line (row, column or diagonal) wins.

How to host First Day at Work bingo

  1. Print the First Day at Work cards

Give each player one card; a free set prints up to 30, no two alike. Card 1 above starts with Dress code check, Leave on time, Elevator small talk, Org chart walk-through and Laptop handed over.

  2. Print the caller sheet

All 42 entries appear on it in shuffled order, opening with Desk assigned, Kitchen rules, Password setup, Dress code check and Org chart walk-through; tick each one as you read it out.

  3. Put the card in the welcome pack with a pen and a note that nothing needs to be finished; “Forgot a name” is there to reassure, not to test.

  4. Teams can fill gaps on purpose: if the new hire has not yet marked “Meet your buddy” or “Fire exits shown”, someone should arrange it before lunch.

  5. Use a 3x3 card for a single day; a 5x5 card works better across the first week, when “Email signature” and “Phone extension” may still be pending.

  6. Call until someone shouts bingo

With 30 cards, expect the first line near call 12 (Free coffee in this set's order) and a blackout near call 38; check the winner's squares against your ticked list.

First Day at Work bingo variations

  • First Day at Work variation

Buddy edition: the new hire and their buddy share one card, and the buddy is responsible for making “Kitchen rules”, “Org chart walk-through” and “Free coffee” happen before the day ends.

  • Quick 4x4 round

A 4x4 card needs 16 of the 42 entries and no free space; one card is full after about 40.5 calls instead of 41.3.

First 15 calls of this First Day at Work set

Seed "first-day-at-work" gives this order, the same one the caller sheet prints. With these calls, card 11 of the first 30 completes the diagonal from the top left (Drawer key, Packed lunch, Nervous smile and Leave on time) on call 13, and card 12 is the first full card on call 40.

Frequently asked questions

How many words are on the First Day at Work bingo list?

42, from Ask a basic question to Wrong floor. A 5x5 card with a free center uses 24 of them, so each card leaves out 18. The shortest entry is Drawer key (10 characters) and the longest is Org chart walk-through (22).

Are all First Day at Work bingo cards the same?

No. Card 1 and card 2 of this set share 12 of their 24 squares, and every card is checked so none of the 30 in a free set repeats. About 2.19 × 10³⁵ different arrangements are possible from the 42 entries (353,697,121,050 different selections of 24).

How many First Day at Work bingo cards per person?

One card each is standard. How long does First Day at Work bingo take?

A First Day at Work game with 30 players usually reaches its first line after 12 calls (9-16 in 80% of simulated games), about 2 minutes at one call every 10 seconds. A blackout takes about 38; with 10 players the first line needs about 16.

Can I print First Day at Work bingo cards for free?

Yes. All 42 entries are loaded above, so choose a card count up to 30 and press Print cards, or Download PDF to print later at one card per sheet (30 sheets for a full set). The shuffled caller sheet prints separately; nothing is uploaded or stored on a server.

How do I make my own First Day at Work bingo cards?

Start from this list: the 42 entries are already in the generator, so delete Free coffee or any other entry, type your own one per line and the cards update as you type. Keep at least 24 entries for 5x5 cards (16 for 4x4); the share link reprints exactly the same set.
