Cards update as you type. Long entries shrink to fit their square; a very long single word is split over two lines with a hyphen (up to 40 characters each). The PDF uses a built-in font: emoji and non-Latin scripts print best with Print cards.
Caller sheet
Every call in a shuffled order. Tick each one as you read it out; the same share link always gives the same order.

About Compound Words bingo
Compound Words Bingo uses closed compounds made of two whole words children already know: sun and flower become “Sunflower”, while “Grasshopper”, “Lighthouse”, “Scarecrow” and “Earthquake” show how the parts build meaning. Many squares are concrete things, so the card works for kindergarten to third grade and for ESL learners connecting new words to familiar ones.
47 entries make up this Compound Words set. With 24 per card, any single one, Pinecone for example, appears on about 51% of the cards, so in a room of 30 players around 15 of them have it.
The caller reads the 47 entries from a shuffled caller sheet and players mark them; the first complete line (row, column or diagonal) wins.

How to host Compound Words bingo
-
Print the Compound Words cards
Give each player one card; a free set prints up to 30, no two alike. Card 1 above starts with Lighthouse, Rainbow, Doorbell, Scarecrow and Pinecone.
-
Print the caller sheet
All 47 entries appear on it in shuffled order, opening with Sunshine, Skateboard, Moonlight, Horseshoe and Raincoat; tick each one as you read it out.
-
Call the two halves separately, such as tooth and brush, and let players put them together before marking “Toothbrush”.
-
Ask for a quick drawing of a literal meaning now and then; a fish shaped like a star for “Starfish” or a cake in a cup for “Cupcake” sticks in memory.
-
Point out compounds whose meaning drifted from the parts, like “Daydream” and “Homework”, and ask players to explain how each name makes sense.
-
Call until someone shouts bingo
With 30 cards, expect the first line near call 14 (Hairbrush in this set's order) and a blackout near call 42; check the winner's squares against your ticked list.
Compound Words bingo variations
-
Compound Words variation
Half-word bingo: the caller says only one half, such as rain. Players may mark any compound containing it, so “Rainbow” or “Raincoat” both count, but each call allows only one mark.
-
Blackout round
Card 1 needs all 24 squares, Lighthouse to Cupcake; on average one card fills after 46.1 of the 47 calls (98% of the deck).
-
Picture bingo for pre-readers
Use 3x3 cards with the 24 entries that have a symbol, such as Sunflower, Rainbow and Snowman.

Frequently asked questions
How many words are on the Compound Words bingo list?
47, from Airplane to Watermelon. A 5x5 card with a free center uses 24 of them, so each card leaves out 23. The shortest entry is Teapot (6 characters) and the longest is Grasshopper (11).
Are all Compound Words bingo cards the same?
No. Card 1 and card 2 of this set share 14 of their 24 squares, and every card is checked so none of the 30 in a free set repeats. About 1.00 × 10³⁷ different arrangements are possible from the 47 entries (16,123,801,841,550 different selections of 24).
How many Compound Words bingo cards per person?
Usually one. Extra cards speed the game up only a little: on this list a first line took a median 14 calls with 30 cards in play, 12 with 60 (30 players on two cards each) and 17 with just 10. Two cards suit adults who want a faster game; young children do best with one. A free set of 30 covers 15 players on two cards each.
How long does Compound Words bingo take?
A Compound Words game with 30 players usually reaches its first line after 14 calls (9-16 in 80% of simulated games), about 2 minutes at one call every 10 seconds. A blackout takes about 42; with 10 players the first line needs about 17.
Can I print Compound Words bingo cards for free?
Yes, up to 30 unique cards per set at no cost and without an account. Pick how many you need, then use Print cards or Download PDF: each card gets its own page with the title “Compound Words Bingo” on top, and the caller sheet lists all 47 entries in this set's shuffled order.
How do I make my own Compound Words bingo cards?
Start from this list: the 47 entries are already in the generator, so delete Skateboard or any other entry, type your own one per line and the cards update as you type. Keep at least 24 entries for 5x5 cards (16 for 4x4); the share link reprints exactly the same set.
Is there a picture version of Compound Words bingo?
24 of the 47 entries have a picture symbol (🌻 Sunflower, 🌈 Rainbow, ⛄ Snowman, 🧁 Cupcake). Print 3x3 cards with symbol entries such as Popcorn and Butterfly for children who cannot read yet; symbols show on screen and in browser printing.
